許多中國學生寫英文時，喜歡照中文逐字翻譯，結果就造成一些文法上看似正確，事實上卻怪怪的、不自然的中式英文。看下列的句子，想一想哪裡出了問題？

(I) exercise

Ex: 我每天做運動。
      → I do exercise every day. ＊

許多中國學生一看到「做」就想到 do，「運動」就想到 exercise，於是「做運動」等於『do exercise』。

do exercise是「做作業」的意思而不是做運動的的意思。

做運動的正確用法可分為英式英文和美式英文兩種。

英式英文→  take exercise  動詞用take，不是用do。        
美式英文→  exercise     直接把exercise從名詞轉為動詞。

Ex：我每天做運動。
       →I take exercise every day.
           I exercise every day. 

    (II) comfortable

     Ex: 因為瑪莉身體不舒服，她兩個小時前就回家了。
→Because Mary was uncomfortable, she went home two hours ago. ＊

許多中國學生一看到「不舒服」就想到 uncomfortable。

事實上uncomfortable意味著「不自在」的感覺，例如上台講話被台下的人盯著瞧，感覺到不自在、挺難過的時候，可以說I felt uncomfortable when I delivered a speech on the stage.或是和陌生人在一起，不自在的時候，可以說 I feel uncomfortable being with strangers.  當身體不舒服指的是「生病」的話，它正確的表達方式應該是「sick」或「ill」。

Ex：因為瑪莉身體不舒服，她兩個小時前就回家了。
       →Because Mary was sick, she went home two hours ago.

(III) suggest

Ex:  牙醫建議她明天再來。
      →The dentist suggested her to come tomorrow. ＊

中文語法常會說「建議」某人去做某事，例如建議生病的人去看醫生、建議壞人去警察局自首，許多中國學生會受到去這個字的影響，所以建議某人去做某事就會譯成suggest someone to do something。

suggest正確的表達方式

suggest +  ↗ Ving                                    
                    ↘ that ＋S (should) ＋ 原形V

         Ex：牙醫建議她明天再來。
→The dentist suggested that she (should) come tomorrow.

     (IV) Look up the dictionary?

     Ex:查字典是學英文的好方法之一。
→One of the best ways to learn English is to look up the dictionary. ＊

許多中國學生一看到「查詢」就想到「look up」；「字典」就想到 「dictionary」。於是查字典就是 look up the dictionary。

「查字典」正確的表達方式有兩種:

1.Consult the dictionary                                    
   動詞如用consult，受詞可直接加 dictionary。

2.look up words in the dictionary                           
  ☆動詞如用look up，受詞不可直接加dictionary。

         Ex：查字典是學英文的好方法之一。
→A good way to learn English is to look up words in the dictionary.
→A good way to learn English is to consult the dictionary.

(V) suit

Ex:你適合這件洋裝。
     →You suit this dress. ＊

中文語法常說某人「適合」某樣東西，例如你很適合這件衣服，他很適合這個髮型，小明很適合這件工作等等；英文語法中並不常說某人適合某樣東西，而是要反過來說某樣東西適合某人，例如這件衣服很適合你，這個髮型很適合他，這件工作很適合小明等等；其實，中文語法中也有這樣的表達方式，只是並不常見而已。所以，正確的表達方式：

something suits someone  →       主詞為東西、事物最為常見。          
                                                                                                                    

                                                                               someone be suited for something→  主詞是人，要把動詞suit改成形容
 詞suited 並加上介詞 for

Ex：你適合這件洋裝。
        →This dress suits you.

Ex：你適合這個工作。
        →You are suited for this job.
